7 Inch $99 Android Tablets May Be Launched By End Of 2013

7 Inch $99 Android Tablets May Be Launched By End Of 2013

If Apple kick started the tablet race with its original iPad back in 2007, its safe to say that Google’s Nexus 7 tablet significantly boosted the mid-range tablet market. So much so that even Apple released a mini version of their iPad, just so it could too get a footing in this particular market. The Cupertino company is reportedly also eyeing an even cheaper iPad mini so as to increase its penetration. Most 7 inch tablets currently carry price tags of $199, one of them even retails for as low as $129. According to a new report by Digitimes, 2013′s end could bring a new wave of 7 inch tablets that only cost $99.
The report claims that since Asus is offering 8GB MeMO Pad HD 7 inch tablet for $129, there’s a possibility that other brand vendors will follow suit. There’s reportedly a “good chance” that 7 inch Android tablets costing less than a hundred dollars will be available in the retail channel as early as the third quarter of 2013. The report fails to explain exactly which brand vendors it is talking about, and what hardware specifications these ultra low cost tablets will have.

Acer annouced its New Android Smartphone Liquid S1 with 5.7 inch 720p display and1.5 GHz quad core processor

Acer Liquid S1

Computex has just begun in Taipei and Acer is already leading the pack with a steady stream of announcements. The company has just announced the launch of a brand new large screened Android smartphone. Called the Liquid S1, it packs a 720p 5.7 inch screen. Aimed at emerging markets in Asia and Europe, it will come equipped with dual SIM card slots. There are no plans to bring the smartphone to the US and hence it lacks LTE radios which are critical for the market.

Powering the smartphone is a 1.5Ghz quad core Mediatek processor. This is paired with 1GB of memory which should be more than sufficient to facilitate multitasking. The software on top is Android 4.2 with an almost stock interface layer. That is not to say that the handset is running stock Android 4.2 because Acer has taken the time out to make some fairly useful additions to the software. Holding down on the multitasking button reveals a pop up window that offers shortcuts to windowed apps. This functionality is somewhat similar to the pop up window functions seen on Samsung’s Android handsets.

The handset weighs 195 grams and is equipped with 8GB of storage that can be expanded via a microSD card slot. Powering the massive screen is a 2400 mAh battery pack that is user replaceable. The Liquid S1 will launch in black and white options in Q3 this year across France, Belgium, Netherlands, Ukraine, Russia, UK and Germany and will be priced at 329 euros.

Samsung comes with Galaxy S4 slim version

It’s become clock work for the iPhone to come out with a new version and then a slim version of that new version a bit later, but now Samsung’s following in its footsteps. On Thursday the company announced that it would be launching an improved mini version of its wildly successful Galaxy S4.
The smaller S4 will offer a 4.3-inch display that’s larger than the iPhone 5’s 4-inch, and it’ll be almost .2 ounces lighter. For those keeping score, that’s a good bit smaller than the S4’s current 5-inch screen.

The Specs:
-          8-megapixel rear camera (down from 13-megapixels) and a 2-megapixel front camera
-          8 gigs of internal memory with a possibility for up to 64 gigs with a memory microchip
-          Comes with Google’s Jelly Bean Android OS
For further information you’ll have to wait until the company shows off the device on June 20th in London. No price range or release date has been announced, but you can expect it to cost about the same as the S4 did at launch.
Oh, and one more thing. You’ll be able to choose from black or white versions. Honestly, would it kill for phone companies to offer their phones in a bit of color?
